NJSMPA Statement on George Floyd

June 1, 2020

Unanimous Resolution by the Executive Board of the NJSMPA:

The New Jersey State Municipal Prosecutors' Association is deeply troubled by the events surrounding the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The officers’ actions were deeply disturbing, heart wrenching, and counterproductive to fair policing, and justice for all. As Municipal Prosecutors we are actively engaged with our community and local law enforcement on a regular basis. We condemn all acts of racism, discrimination, and senseless acts of violence. We take pride in treating everyone in our communities equally, and fairly. We recognize the importance of public trust and promise to continue sustained efforts to ensure every citizen’s rights are upheld, and all parties are respected. We support peaceful expressions against injustice and continue to maintain a bridge between the community and local law enforcement.

We extend our condolences and prayers to George Floyd’s family, friends, and to all affected.
